InterMoor to provide mooring for two Chinese floating production units

InterMoor, a provider of mooring services in subsea services group Acteon, has signed a contract to install deepwater mooring systems for the Liuhua 16-2 and Lingshui 17-2 floating production units in the South China Sea.

InterMoor said on Tuesday that the deal was signed with COOEC, a subsidiary of China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC).

The Liuhua 16-2 turret-moored floating production and storage and offloading facility will be anchored in 390–420 meters of water in the Baiyun Sag at the center of the Pearl River Mouth basin using nine suction pile anchors with chain-wire-chain legs.

The Lingshui 17-2 taut-leg semi-submersible floating production unit will be anchored in 1,220–1,560 meters of water in the Qiongdongnan basin in the northern South China Sea using 16 legs built with driven piles, chain, and polyester rope.

According to InterMoor, the work scope includes project management, review, and verification of detailed designs, detailed installation methodologies and procedures, installation engineering and offshore preparation and execution.

InterMoor added that both projects would start immediately. They will be managed from InterMoor's Singapore office, but most of the InterMoor engineers and the project director will be seconded to COOEC's office in Shenzhen, China.

It is worth reminding that COOEC hired Keppel O&M subsidiary, Keppel FloaTEC, last month for the provision of engineering services in support of the construction of the Lingshui 17-2 production semi-sub. The offshore facility will be built in China.

Construction works on the project valued almost $3 billion started in November 2018. The platform is expected to start producing in 2020.

As reported earlier, Norway's Aker Solutions in October 2018 won a $205 million order to provide the subsea production system and umbilicals for the Lingshui 17-2 gas field.
