Index represents companies with best performance in sustainability.

Petrobras is one of the highlights of the recently launched Dow Jones Sustainability Index for Emerging Markets (DJSI Emerging Markets). The index has been introduced this year and consists of 69 companies from 12 countries and 37 economic sectors. Petrobras is among the five largest companies which make up a 5.69% share of the index.

The DJSI Emerging Markets represents about 10% of companies that have the best performance in sustainability, among 800 of the largest companies in the emerging markets that are part of the Dow Jones Global Total Stock Market Index. Companies were selected based on an annual evaluation of public information and data from an in-depth questionnaire covering economic, social and environmental aspects.

The index methodology evaluates a variety of criteria, including strategies focused on climate change, energy consumption, development of human resources, knowledge management and corporate governance. Research is done by a Swiss consulting firm specializing in the assessment of corporate performance. In the classification of the study, emerging markets are represented by the following countries: Brazil, Chile, China, Colombia, Czech Republic, Egypt, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mexico, Morocco, Peru, Philippines, Poland, Russia, South Africa, Taiwan, Thailand and Turkey.

In 2012, Petrobras was selected to be included in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) for the seventh consecutive year, the most important global sustainability index, which evaluates best practices in social, environmental and economic global management. The Company received the highest grade in the criterion for "transparency" for the sixth time and was also considered a benchmark in the "cleaner fuels" and "policies and environmental management systems” criteria.

The participation in sustainability indexes reflects the commitment of the Company to align its growth with sustainable development, minimizing and mitigating the impact of their activities on the environment and reinforcing their commitment to society and its shareholders.
