Petrobras listed in Dow Jones Sustainability Index for the 8th consecutive year
For the 8th year running, Petrobras has been listed in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index, World, with the maximum score for Transparency for the 7th time, and another maximum for Releases to the Environment. The company was also recognized for its performance in terms of Social Impact on Communities, Environmental Management Policies/Systems and Risk & Crisis Management.
"Transparency is extremely important to Petrobras. When the company is recognized by the leading global index and receives the highest possible rating for its transparency, then we can be sure that we are on the right path towards sustainable growth,” said Petrobras CEO Maria das Graças Silva Foster.
This year, 333 companies from 25 countries in 59 industry sectors participated in DJSI World, including 27 oil and gas companies. Petrobras also returned to the Dow Jones Sustainability Index, Emerging Markets, a regional index listing 81 companies from 20 developing countries.
To Corporate and Services director, José Eduardo Dutra: "The renewed participation of Petrobras in the New York Stock Exchange's Sustainability Indexes confirms that the company is not only focused on growth and profitability, but is also concerned about the social and environmental factors that will help determine the company's future and are gaining increasing prominence in the financial market."
In 2012, Petrobras investments and operational expenditure in environmental protection totaled R$ 2.9 billion, a 7% increase on last year. This figure includes environmental management projects and sponsorship of outside projects. One of the environmental management projects has already achieved an energy saving of 4,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boed) or 8.6 million gigajoules (GJ).
DJSI World is one of the leading global indices on sustainability, evaluating best practices in social, environmental and economic management throughout the world. Petrobras' listing in these indices reflects the company's constant concern to align its growth with sustainable development, minimizing and mitigating the impact of its activities on the environment and strengthening its commitment to society and its shareholders.
